Oddities my new favorite show

Oddities is my new Favorite. I love all the odd and strange things they find. Check them out on the Discovery Channel.

I love hunting and finding obscure treasures. I think my oddest find as of late was this iron cobblers shoe for kids shoes. I think about the skills it took to make a shoe the old fashioned way. I wonder if there are any shoes made in America anymore.

Colorful Vintage Glass

I recently stumbled upon some wonderful vintage glasses, ash trays and pitchers. The colors jumped at me and are bright and cheery. After all the rain we have gotten this spring color is what I'm craving. Check out these vintage glass finds I found at etsy. Happy Saturday everyone I'm hoping to hit some estate sales today! Wish me luck!

Estate Sale Jewelry Finds

I found these lovely treasures today. The ring is a poison ring which I love. It opens and has a hiding place for poison perhaps. The two bracelets are Victorian Revival Goldette. They were made by the Circle Jewelry Company New York in the 1950's and 1960's. They were known for their beautiful Revival and Art Nouveau jewelry.

Mushroom finds

I've learned that when it comes to hunting for finds at a yard sale or thrift shop buy what you love. I got these funky wooden mushrooms and I love them. I did put them in my shop, but I really don't mind keeping them. Mushrooms were very popular in the 1960's and 1970's. I see they are making a come back. Mushrooms according to folklore bring good luck. I think so they were my lucky find for the week!

Vintage Putz Sheep

I rescued the two wonderful vintage sheep. They are marked made in Germany. I believe them to be Putz sheep. I have seen Putz cardboard, glittered Christmas villages. The are very collectible and popular right now. I really had to do some hunting on these. They are being reproduced just as the Putz villages are.
Putz means to decorate in German. This refers to decorating mostly the Church and Christmas.

The best reason to look in old books

You never know what you'll find in an old book. I found this wonderful print in an old 1920 Chicago school book. I love the corn and kernel. The farm house, hay stacks and pumpkins are a bonus. It says it was painted for Public School Methods by the Art Institute, Chicago. I'm not selling this find I'm framing it. I did make several collage kits from other images rescued from this book. Some I think would be great framed and some for scrap booking or other types of art. So next time you're at a yard sale or flea market don't forget to look in a book. You might find a treasure!

Hello Everyone

I'm starting this blog as a way to share my treasures with all of you. I love vintage and just opened my Etsy shop. I've always collected odd and old things and now I've found a way to share. I've recently found several treasures in 2 old push peddle sewing machines.  They were filled with buttons and snaps, spools and thread. They haven't been touched in 30 years. The wonderful Starsnaps above were rescued. I love the graphics. On the back it says this size was for heavy coats and furs. So I hope all you vintage lovers come by and visit often.  I'm excited to begin my journey with all of you. Fondly, Becca /Refindlings
